1/4/2012 4 Jan 2012 - District Duals

It was a very tough night for our team.  Vacancies, departures and illness meant the team had to forfeit 6 weight classes.  That's 36 points to the other team before the match even starts.  That's tough for any team to overcome.

Although the team went 0 - 3 on the night, we did have some bright spots.  Sophomore Garrett Bullin (120) went 3 - 0 on the night; all 3 by pin fall.  Junior Willie Inserra (138) also went 3 - 0, defeating some great competition.

Scores:

Orange 59, North Stafford 17

12/22/2011 21/22 December 2011 - Appalachian Duals

While many were enjoying time off for Christmas break, our team was in action at Skyline High School with 15 other teams.

After the first day of competition, our team finished 2 - 1 and on the championship side of the bracket.  However, forfeits and tough competition, saw our wrestlers go 0 - 2 on the second day; finishing 2 - 3 for the event.

Sophomore Dylan Thompson went 5 - 0 in the two days of competition with 4 wins by pin fall.  Sophomore Logan Fischer earned his first varsity victory by pinning his opponent from Liberty.

12/17/2011 17 December 2011 - North Stafford Duals

North Stafford hosted its first home event with 9 other teams competing with two from West Virginia and one Maryland team making the trip to compete.

Although our grapplers competed well, forfeits cost the team as they went 2 - 3 on the day.

Freshmen Shawn Hank (132) and Ryan Fischer (152)earned their first varsity victories, both with pins.

Junior Willie Inserra went 5 - 0 on the day with 4 pins and was selected as the Outstanding Wrestler (Middle Weights) by the coaches.

12/14/2011  14 December 2011 - District Duals

12/10/2011 9/10 December 2011 - NOVA Classic

Our wrestling team traveled to Fairfax High School to compete with 31 other teams this weekend.  We had two members from our District and Regional champion football team return to the roster this week - Juniors Jacob Ralph and Terrence Kelly.  It was great to have them back and they both put in a valiant effort; wrestling up until they can achieve their wrestling weights, both just finishing one round short of placing and finished 3-2 for the weekend.

Our young team - only one senior on the roster - finished 21st on the weekend.  Even though the team was challenged by vacancies at 5 of the 14 weight classes, with some still wrestling up, they still were competitive against full-rostered teams.

Freshman Zayne Frabutt (113) registered his first varsity win with a pin.

Our team did have two of our wrestlers place as sophomore Dylan Thompson (126) finished in 5th place and junior Willie Inserra (138) captured 2nd place.

12/3/2011 3 December 2011 - Ray Oliver Tournament

Our young team traveled north to McDonogh High School in Owing Mills, MD to compete in the Ray Oliver Tournament.  Of the 10 wrestlers that made the trip only 3 of them, Garret Bullin, Dylan Thompson and Willie Inserra, wrestled in the varsity line-up last year.  Back in the line-up were two former varsity wrestlers, Rene Frias and Eric Maziarski.  The rest of the line-up were experiencing their first varsity matches - Brandon Donahue, Christian Mayorga, Zayne Frabutt, Shawn Hank and Alex Tinoco.

The field of teams they were facing boasted national-ranked teams as well as nationally-ranked individuals.  It was a very tough tournament for our grapplers as they finished 19th out of 20 teams.  However, they were not far away from other teams that fielded full teams.

To help fill gaps in our line-up, the majority of the team was wrestling up a weight class, which increased the challenge.  Even though facing tough challenges, each wrestler competed with great resilience; some losing some very close heart-breakers.  Sophomore Christian Mayorga and Junior Alex Tinoco registered their first varsity wins; Mayorga with a pin.
